Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy for StudyLock

**Effective date:** September 23, 2026

StudyLock is a study productivity application designed to help users create focused study sessions by temporarily blocking selected distracting applications.

We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what information StudyLock accesses, how it is used, where it is stored, and your choices regarding that information.

1. Information We Collect

StudyLock is designed to operate primarily on your device.

We do not require you to create an account or provide your name, email address, phone number, or other personal information to use the core features of the application.

#Information stored locally on your device

Depending on the features you use, StudyLock may store the following information locally on your device:

* Study subjects or session names you create

* Study session duration and schedules

* Apps you select for blocking

* Completed study sessions

* Study history and progress

* Focus streaks and related productivity information

* App preferences and settings

* PIN or security settings, where applicable

This information is used to provide the application's study and focus features.

This information is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers by StudyLock.

2. Permissions and Special App Access

StudyLock requests certain Android permissions and special access only when they are required for its study-session and app-blocking functionality.

2.1 AccessibilityService Usage

StudyLock uses Android's **AccessibilityService API** to provide its core app-blocking functionality.

The AccessibilityService allows StudyLock to determine which application is currently being displayed so that StudyLock can recognize when you open an application that you selected for blocking during an active study session.

For example, if you select a social media application as a blocked application and start a study session, StudyLock uses the AccessibilityService to detect when that application becomes active and display the StudyLock blocking screen.

#What the AccessibilityService is used for

The AccessibilityService is used only to:

* Detect the currently active application.

* Determine whether the active application is included in your selected blocking list.

* Apply your selected blocking rules while an active study session is running.

* Return control to the normal application when the study session ends or blocking is disabled.

#What StudyLock does NOT use AccessibilityService for

StudyLock does not use the AccessibilityService to:

* Read or record passwords.

* Record keystrokes.

* Capture screenshots or screen recordings.

* Record audio.

* Read messages or emails for advertising purposes.

* Collect contacts.

* Monitor your communications.

* Sell or share accessibility information with third parties.

* Send accessibility event data to our servers.

* Build an advertising profile based on the applications you use.

Accessibility information is processed on your device for the app-blocking functionality described above.

You can disable the AccessibilityService at any time through Android system settings. Disabling it will prevent StudyLock from blocking applications that require the AccessibilityService.

# Why AccessibilityService Is Necessary

Android does not provide StudyLock with a general-purpose application-blocking mechanism that can reliably prevent a user-selected application from opening during an active study session.

The AccessibilityService is therefore used narrowly for the specific purpose of detecting when a selected blocked application becomes active and allowing StudyLock to apply the user's chosen study-session blocking rule.

StudyLock does not use the AccessibilityService for unrelated purposes.

# User Control and Consent

Before StudyLock asks you to enable the AccessibilityService, the application provides an in-app explanation describing:

* Why the AccessibilityService is required.

* What information the service can access.

* How StudyLock uses that information.

* That the service is used for app blocking during study sessions.

You must take an affirmative action to consent before being directed to Android settings to enable the AccessibilityService.

You are not required to enable the AccessibilityService to view information about the application. However, app-blocking functionality that depends on the service will not work unless you enable it.

You can revoke the AccessibilityService permission at any time through Android settings.

2.2 Usage Access

StudyLock may request **Usage Access** permission through Android's Usage Access settings.

Usage Access is used to obtain information about application usage and to determine which application is currently being used during an active study session.

This permission allows StudyLock to:

* Identify the application currently in use.

* Determine whether the application is included in the user's selected blocking list.

* Support the app-blocking and study-session functionality.

* Provide study or focus statistics when those features are enabled.

Usage information is used only for the functionality described above.

StudyLock does not sell Usage Access information or use it to create advertising profiles.

Usage information is not transmitted to our servers by StudyLock's core functionality.

Users can revoke Usage Access at any time through Android Settings. Features that depend on Usage Access may stop working after the permission is revoked.

2.3 Display Over Other Apps

StudyLock may request Android's **Display over other apps** permission, also known as overlay permission.

This permission is used to allow StudyLock to display its blocking interface when the user attempts to open an application that has been selected for blocking during an active study session.

For example, when a blocked application is opened during a study session, StudyLock may display a blocking screen informing the user that the application is currently restricted by their study session.

The overlay permission is used only to provide the StudyLock blocking interface.

StudyLock does not use the overlay permission to:

* Record the screen.

* Capture screenshots.

* Read passwords or payment information.

* Record keystrokes.

* Display advertisements over other applications.

* Collect unrelated information from other applications.

Users can revoke the Display over other apps permission at any time through Android Settings. The blocking interface may not function correctly if this permission is disabled.

2.4 Notifications

StudyLock may request notification permission where required by the Android version and device.

Notifications may be used for:

* Study-session reminders.

* Scheduled study sessions.

* Active-session information.

* Session completion notifications.

* Other study-related notifications selected by the user.

Notification permission can be disabled through Android Settings.

3 Foreground Service

When required by StudyLock's active-session functionality, the application may use an Android foreground service to maintain an active study session while the application is not visible.

The foreground service is used to maintain study-session functionality and app-blocking behavior while the user is studying.

When a foreground service is active, Android may display a persistent notification informing the user that StudyLock is running an active study session.

StudyLock does not use the foreground service to secretly monitor the device or collect unrelated personal information.

4. Data Storage

StudyLock is designed to keep your study information on your device.

Study information such as subjects, session history, schedules, selected blocked applications, and preferences is stored locally using Android storage mechanisms.

We do not operate a server that receives or stores this study information.

If you uninstall StudyLock, locally stored application data may be removed by Android according to your device's application-data management behavior.

5. Information We Do Not Sell

We do not sell your personal information.

We do not use your AccessibilityService information to create advertising profiles.

We do not provide AccessibilityService data to advertisers or data brokers.

6. Third-Party Services

The core version of StudyLock does not require an external account or server to provide its study-session and app-blocking functionality.

If third-party services are added to StudyLock in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated to describe the relevant services, information processed, purposes, and applicable third parties before those changes become applicable.

7. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information handled by StudyLock.

Because the core study information is stored locally on your device, the security of that information also depends on the security of your Android device, including your device lock, operating-system security, and other security settings.

You should keep your device updated and use an appropriate device lock.

8. Children's Privacy

StudyLock is a general productivity and study application.

The application does not knowingly collect personal information from children through an online account or server.

Because StudyLock does not require an online account for its core functionality, study information is designed to remain on the user's device.

Parents or guardians should supervise a child's use of device permissions, including AccessibilityService, according to the child's age and applicable laws.

9. Your Choices

You can control StudyLock's access to the AccessibilityService through Android system settings.

You can also:

* Stop an active study session.

* Change or remove blocked applications.

* Modify study schedules.

* Delete locally stored study history using the application's available controls.

* Uninstall the application to remove its locally stored application data, subject to Android's device behavior.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when StudyLock's functionality, data practices, or applicable legal requirements change.

When we make changes, we will update the "Effective date" at the top of this policy.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.

12. Summary

StudyLock is designed around local processing and minimal data collection.

By using StudyLock, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy.
